What kind of insane lunatic would write a 17 second piece of music this off the rails and intense and have the audacity to call it “Pause” ?
Of course it’s not a single piece called Pause, but the penultimate movement in a totally on-the-rails-of-fun masterpiece called “Carnaval” Op. 9 by Schumann, who was in fact somewhat of a lunatic (he actually threw himself in a river). He created some fantastic miniatures for piano. If you like your party music 19th Century style give this a whirl, masterfully pwned here by the one and only Mitsuko Uchida, one of my faves. Breathtaking.
